Security forces have arrested five militants linked to various banned valley-based outfits in separate operations in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, police said.
In an operation on Dingku Road, police apprehended two active members of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) involved in extortion in and around Imphal. The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangam Surankumar Singh (29) and Chingakham Langol Singh (21).
In another operation on Tuesday, security forces arrested two active members of the banned PREPAK (Pro) from Top Makha Leikai in Imphal East. The duo, Wangkheirakpam Romeo Meitei alias Baruni (44) and Thokchom Nepolian Singh (22), were engaged in serving monetary demands and threats to extort money from local businesses, including shops and tent houses. Authorities also recovered a demand letter from the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Red Army) from their possession.
On Wednesday, another operation led to the arrest of Naorem Naren Meitei, an active member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), from Takhel Mamang Leikai near the foothill in Imphal East District.
All the arrested individuals have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action, officials said.
