PM Modi Likely To Visit Sikkim On May 16 For State’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations: CM Tamang

Gangtok, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Sikkim on May 16 to attend the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

The event marks 50 years since Sikkim became the 22nd state of India on May 16, 1975. During the visit, Modi is scheduled to inaugurate several projects, including the 500-bed Namchi District Hospital, a ropeway at Sangachoeling, and a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He will also lay foundation stones for key infrastructure and tourism projects, such as the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre at Namli, the Bhaleydhunga Skywalk eco-tourism project, the Nathula Border Tourism Development initiative, and the Singhshore Bridge to improve regional connectivity.

Tamang highlighted Sikkim’s transformation over the past five decades, emphasizing its progress in peace, sustainable development, and economic growth. He said the golden jubilee celebrations would be an opportunity to reflect on the state’s achievements and future goals.
