Guwahati, Mar 28: Assam has the highest number of ongoing National Highway (NH) projects in the Northeast, with a total investment of ₹39,239 crore, according to official data. The state also has the longest road length under construction.

Arunachal Pradesh has two NH projects covering 815 km, with an investment of ₹8,035 crore, while Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura have fewer projects and shorter road lengths. The total investment in approved NH projects across the region stands at ₹43,322 crore, while projects under construction amount to ₹87,363 crore.

In terms of budget allocation for NH development and maintenance, Assam leads with ₹5,329 crore, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with ₹3,488 crore. Nagaland has been allocated ₹1,227 crore, Manipur ₹1,508 crore, and Tripura ₹514 crore.

The completion of these projects depends on factors such as land acquisition, environmental and forest clearances, utility shifting, and contractor financial position. All ongoing NH projects in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura are expected to be completed by 2028.

To address challenges and prevent delays, authorities have implemented measures such as streamlining land acquisition, conducting regular project reviews, expediting approvals, and improving coordination with state governments and other stakeholders.
