DGAR Women’s Team Crowned Champions, Tripura Finishes Runner-Up in Sentinels Cup

Agartala, March 28, 2025: The second edition of the Women’s Sentinels Cup Football Tournament, organized by Assam Rifles, concluded with an emphatic victory for the DGAR women’s team. The tournament, held from March 16 to 25 at Lokra, saw its grand finale at Laitkor on March 27, where DGAR triumphed over the Tripura team with a resounding 6-0 win to claim the championship title.

Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, and Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR), attended the final match and congratulated the winners for their outstanding performance.

The tournament was officially inaugurated on March 16 by the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, who presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Teams from all Seven Sister States of Northeast India, along with the DGAR women’s team, competed in the event, with the knockout phase organized by the 30 Assam Rifles at Lokra.

Beyond the competitive matches, the tournament served as a platform for participants to gain insights into the Armed Forces, attend motivational talks, and engage in empowerment initiatives. Sessions on women’s and youth empowerment, skill development, health, fitness, and the promotion of a sports culture were conducted alongside the matches.

The Women’s Sentinels Cup, an annual initiative by Assam Rifles, aims to foster and uplift women’s football in Northeast India, providing young athletes with a stage to showcase their talent and grow in the sport.
