Shillong, Mar 28: The Meghalaya government has assured consumers that it will take action to address grievances regarding unexpectedly high electricity bills. Power Minister AT Mondal urged residents to come forward and formally register their complaints.
Minister Mondal explained that some instances of inflated bills are due to previous underbilling. He clarified that when a new meter reader assumes responsibility, the accumulated excess in the meter becomes apparent, resulting in higher-than-expected bills.
This assurance follows growing public dissatisfaction, with many residents reporting unexplained surges in their electricity charges. The government’s prompt response aims to resolve concerns and ensure transparency in the billing process.
Consumers can register complaints through the Meghalaya government’s public grievance redressal and monitoring system, designed to allow citizens to file grievances against government agencies.
