Gangtok, Mar 28: The Old Silk Route in Zuluk, Sikkim, has been recognized as the ‘Most Scenic Route in India’ at the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2025. The prestigious award was presented during a ceremony at The Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi, where leaders from the tourism industry gathered to celebrate the country’s top travel destinations.
The award was handed over by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, Government of India, to Tshering T. Bhutia, Minister of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, who was accompanied by C.S. Rao, Principal Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim.
At 10,100 feet above sea level, Zuluk is part of the historic Silk Route, which once connected traders across Asia. The area is renowned for its panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga and its iconic Zig Zag Road, featuring 32 hairpin bends, offering a thrilling experience for travelers.
This recognition further elevates Sikkim as a premier travel destination, known for its rich cultural heritage, pristine landscapes, and eco-tourism initiatives. The Government of Sikkim remains committed to promoting sustainable tourism while preserving the unique charm of this historic route.
