Manipur: Security Forces Arrest Two Militants, Recover Huge Arms Cache

Security forces have arrested two militants belonging to different proscribed outfits from Bishnupur and Jiribam districts, police reported on Saturday.

On Friday, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed outfit KCP (PWG), identified as Salam Malemnganba Singh alias Wanglen (23). He was arrested from a field on the eastern side of Tiddim Road near Upoki Village under Bishnupur Police Station in Bishnupur district. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.

In another operation on Saturday, police arrested a cadre of the proscribed outfit KCP (PWG)-Lamyanba Khuman faction. The arrested militant, identified as Thoidam Suresh Singh alias Lemba (34), was taken into custody from Ningsingkhul, Jiribam, under Jiribam Police Station in Jiribam district. Both arrested individuals have been handed over to the respective police stations for necessary legal proceedings, the police report stated.

Meanwhile, security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives during an operation conducted in Tengnoupal district on Friday. The seized items included three country-made heavy mortar launchers, five metal IEDs, one additional IED, 5 kg of plastic explosives, a 7.62 mm country-made pistol with a magazine, a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine, four AK-47 rounds, six SLR rounds, six 12-bore cartridges, 200 grams of gunpowder, two helmets, and two bulletproof jacket harnesses.

The recovery was made from the Molnom-Senam area under Tengnoupal Police Station. Security forces later destroyed five metal IEDs and one plastic IED on-site, while the remaining materials were deposited at Tengnoupal Police Station, according to the police report.
