Shillong, Mar 31: The ongoing conflict between the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) over the issuance of building permits has sparked concerns, with KHADC Opposition Leader Titosstarwell Chyne calling for a resolution.

Chyne has urged the Executive Committee, led by the Voice of the People Party (VPP), to take up the matter with the Urban Affairs Department. He recalled that the state government had designated KHADC as one of the authorities responsible for issuing building permissions under the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws, 2021.

He further stated that KHADC had formed the Khasi Hills Building and Structure Regulatory Authority (KHBSRA) to regulate building permissions within the master plan area of the Shillong agglomeration, as notified by the state government. However, he expressed surprise over the ongoing confusion, which was highlighted by Laban-Mawprem MDC Ricky Shullai during the recently concluded Council budget session.

Shullai had pointed out that the dispute between MUDA and KHADC was affecting residents in his constituency, adding to the urgency for a resolution to the jurisdictional conflict.
