Agartala, April 1, 2025: A tragic incident took place at Tripura’s Madhav Tilla area of Kanchanmala No. 1 ward of Golaghati assembly constituency in Sepahijala district, where a 40-year old man took his own life by hanging himself in his house late Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Tapas Chowdhury, son of Gouranga Chowdhury was found hanging from a ceiling fan leaving his family in deep mourning.
His father Gouranga Chowdhury was the first to see the heartbreaking scene. “I saw him hanging and couldn’t believe my eyes. I screamed for help,” he said, his voice trembling. Neighbors rushed to the house upon hearing his cries, only to witness the shocking sight. Tapas’s wife and young daughter were inconsolable, struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss.
According to family sources, Tapas had a history of alcohol consumption but had stopped drinking for the past 10-12 days. “He was behaving normally the entire day, but he barely spoke to anyone. We never thought he would take such a drastic step,” said a relative.
Upon receiving information, officers from Amtali police station arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem at Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital in Agartala city. “We have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation,” a police official confirmed. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy on Tuesday.
While the exact reason behind his suicide remains unknown, his grieving family—including his elderly parents, wife, daughter, and brother—struggle to cope with the irreversible loss.
