Shillong, Apr 3: Ha Lyngkha Bneng (The Elysian Field), a Khasi-language film directed by Pradip Kurbah, has been selected for the main competition at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025. The festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world, will be held in Moscow from April 17 to April 24.

The film tells the story of a secluded village in Meghalaya gradually being deserted due to urban migration. It explores themes of loneliness, resilience, and the strength of human connections through the lens of friendship and survival.

Filmed over two years in and around Sohra, Meghalaya, Ha Lyngkha Bneng captures the region’s landscapes and cultural richness. The project gained early recognition in 2020 when it was selected for the Asian Project Market in Busan, South Korea, and the Co-Production Market at India’s NFDC Film Bazaar.

Produced by Kurbah Films in collaboration with Hello Meghalaya, Pomus New Horizons, Ka Knup Creatives, and Cat N Mouse Entertainment, the film features a cast including Richard Kharpuri, Helena Duiia, Baia Marbaniang, Albert Mawriew, Merlvin Mukhim, and Jeetesh Sharma.

The selection of Ha Lyngkha Bneng at MIFF 2025 marks a significant milestone for Khasi cinema, bringing international attention to storytelling from Meghalaya and Northeast India. Kurbah, known for his commitment to indigenous narratives, continues to elevate regional cinema on the global stage.

With its screening at MIFF, Ha Lyngkha Bneng is set to introduce Khasi cinema to a wider international audience, further strengthening the region’s presence in global filmmaking.
