Meghalaya Constitutes All-Party Committee To Explore Winter Capital In Tura

Shillong, April 4: The Meghalaya state government has formed an All-Party Committee to discuss and submit a report on establishing a winter capital in Tura, West Garo Hills district. The committee, constituted by the Governor of Meghalaya, will comprise recognized and registered political parties.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will head the committee, or a minister nominated by him. All political parties have been requested to send two representatives each. Relevant government departments will also be invited to participate in the deliberations.

The committee’s terms of reference include studying the feasibility of setting up a winter capital in Tura and examining the pros and cons of having two state capitals. This decision comes in response to demands made by various NGOs and civil societies.

The committee will seek input from all stakeholders and submit a report to the state government. This development marks a significant step towards exploring the possibility of a winter capital in Meghalaya.
