Gangtok, Apr 7: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Sunday unveiled the trophy for the inaugural Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Open Volleyball Tournament at M.G Marg, Gangtok. The event marks the beginning of key sporting activities in the run-up to the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025.

The tournament, which will see participation from ten teams, is being organised with support from the State Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. It forms part of a broader initiative to promote sports and cultural tourism in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister described the tournament as a celebration of “teamwork, discipline, and the indomitable spirit of our youth.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to encouraging a robust sporting culture and providing platforms for athletes across backgrounds to showcase their talent.

“We believe in creating opportunities for talent to thrive, and this tournament is a step in that direction,” he said, extending his best wishes to all participating teams. “Play with passion, respect the game, and may the best team lift this prestigious trophy,” he added.

The Chief Minister also invited the public to take part in the Cho-Dzo Fest 2025, scheduled to be held in Rabong from April 11 to 16. The festival will feature Sikkim’s cultural heritage, traditional arts, adventure activities, and community events.

“With events like these, we not only celebrate our traditions and sporting talents but also bring people together in the true spirit of unity and festivity,” he said.
