Agartala, April 07, 2025: Tensions resurfaced along the India-Bangladesh border after a suspicious drone was found in a paddy field near the Ballamukha border in Belonia subdivision under South Tripura district. The incident took place just 300 meters from the international barbed-wire fence has raised concerns about a possible breach of national security.
According to sources, local residents first spotted the unmanned aerial vehicle lying in the field on the Indian side early Monday morning. The sighting caused panic among villagers, prompting them to alert the authorities.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a local villager said, “We have never seen anything like this before. It looked like a drone, and we were scared that it might be dangerous. So we immediately informed the police.”
The Tripura Police responded swiftly to the alert. A team arrived at the location within minutes, secured the area, and recovered the drone. The device has since been taken into custody for forensic analysis.
Confirming the incident, a senior police officer stated, “We recovered a drone from the paddy field near the international border. The exact origin of the drone is yet to be confirmed, but preliminary indications suggest it may have entered Indian territory from across the Bangladesh border.”
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the drone’s purpose and its point of origin. Security officials are not ruling out possibilities of cross-border smuggling or espionage.
“We are examining all angles, including the possibility of smuggling or surveillance activities. The drone is being analyzed for any data or attachments that could provide leads,” the officer added.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has also been alerted and is coordinating with local police to trace the drone’s flight path and verify whether it violated Indian airspace from Bangladesh.
This incident marks a renewed wave of tension between the two neighboring nations along this sensitive border stretch, highlighting the growing concerns over the use of drones in cross-border activities.
