Gangtok, Apr 8: Health & Family Welfare Minister of Sikkim, G.T. Dhungel, inaugurated the newly constructed Maternal and Child Health Wing at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jorethang on Monday. The event, held on World Health Day, was attended by senior officials, healthcare professionals, and members of the local community.
The ceremony saw the presence of Salghari-Zoom MLA and Advisor to the Skill Development & Transport Departments, Madan Cintury, as the special guest. Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, Yogen Tamang, along with the Panchayat President and PRI members, also took part in the inauguration.
Key officials from the Health & Family Welfare Department included Secretary Tenzing Kezom, NHM Mission Director Anusha Lama, Chief Medical Officer and Director of District Hospital Namchi S.N. Adhikari, Director and State Programme Officer for RCH Anita Bhutia, Director of SIRD Bishal Mukhia, and Joint Director of RCH Manisha Rai. Also present were the SDM of Jorethang, MEO NJNP, officials from the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Cell, MOIC Jorethang CHC, and hospital staff.
In his address, Dhungel reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and ensuring accessible, quality services across Sikkim. He underscored the importance of maternal and child health, especially in line with this year’s World Health Day theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.” He encouraged the public to make use of services offered by the AYUSH department and emphasized the value of teamwork and resource optimization in public health delivery.
The Chief Medical Officer of District Hospital Namchi also presented the CHC’s requirements in line with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), outlining the goals for the new facility.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all attendees, stakeholders, and the local community for their support.
This development represents a major step toward improving maternal and child healthcare services in the region and reflects the state’s continued focus on enhancing public health infrastructure.
