Agartala, April 08, 2025: A significant milestone has been achieved in Tripura’s education sector with the approval of six Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for the state. This major development was announced by the Minister of Janjati Kalyan department Bikash Debbarma shortly after his return from Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to reporters at the MBB airport in Agartala city, Minister Debbarma said, “A new morning is about to begin for Tripura. These schools will not only spread the light of education, but will also instill leadership qualities, confidence, and creativity in the children of tribal areas.”

The announcement follows the minister’s recent meeting in Delhi with Bibhu Nair, Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Welfare (TWD), where the formal approval for the schools was confirmed. Expressing his optimism, Debbarma added, “Education is not just a curriculum, it is the backbone of a nation. Through this decision, we want to further strengthen that backbone.”

According to education officials, the six EMRS will be equipped with modern infrastructure, residential facilities, and a holistic environment for overall development. The initiative is expected to make a transformative impact on students from tribal and backward communities across Tripura.

In response to media queries, the minister stated that the implementation work will begin soon through a joint collaboration between the Centre and the state government. He also appealed to all stakeholders, saying, “I call upon parents, teachers, and common citizens to actively participate in this educational journey.”

Minister Debbarma concluded with a hopeful message: “Tripura is now not just dreaming, but is firmly moving towards making that dream a reality.”
