Agartala, April 09, 2025: As the festive spirit of Chaitra Sankranti enveloped the state, tragedy struck Kiranmala Tripura, a widowed tribal woman residing in Tripura’s Chitabari under Harbatoli ADC Village in Sabroom under South district. On Monday afternoon, a devastating fire engulfed her home, leaving her destitute and homeless.
Recalling the harrowing incident, Kiranmala shared, “I was grazing cattle with my daughter when I received the news. By the time we rushed back, the fire had already consumed everything. All my savings, our food, clothes, and even my children’s books were turned to ashes.” At the time, her son was at school, oblivious to the tragedy unfolding at home.
Local residents and the Sabroom Fire Department responded swiftly to control the blaze, but it was too late. The fire razed the entire house, leaving Kiranmala and her two children with nowhere to go. They are now living under the open sky, grappling with uncertainty.
The heartbreaking incident has caught the attention of local authorities and political leaders. BJP leaders, including Shantipriya Bhowmik, Tapas Lodh and 40-Sabroom Mandal President Gautam Tripura visited the site on Tuesday. “We assure Kiranmala that her plight is being taken seriously. Steps will be taken to ensure she receives appropriate aid,” said Tripura.
Meanwhile, the sub-divisional administration has vowed to provide necessary support. A representative stated, “We are committed to standing by Kiranmala and her family in this difficult time.”
As most revel in the festivities of Chaitra Sankranti, Kiranmala’s family is left grappling with despair. Local residents are urging society to come forward and help rebuild her life. “She needs a roof over her head and hope for her children’s future. Let us all join hands to support this helpless mother,” appealed a neighbor.
