Khuraijam Athouba, the Convenor of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), on Tuesday accused the Indian government of indifference towards ending the ongoing violence in Manipur. During a press conference, Athouba sharply criticized the mainstream media for diverting attention from the state’s core issues by highlighting Chinese influence in the region, a claim echoed by reports in the Asian Age.

Athouba asserted that such media narratives are tactics to sidestep the critical issues the state is enduring. “The Indian government cannot take us to wherever they like, and this issue remains unresolved. Today, the government has failed to ensure the rights of the people guaranteed in the Constitution,” he declared. He also lambasted the silence of both state and central governments, accusing them of neglecting their duty to address the deteriorating situation in Manipur.

In response to the escalating unrest, COCOMI announced the launch of a comprehensive mass awareness campaign set to begin tomorrow. The initiative involves over a dozen community meetings across various localities, where local leaders and resource persons will discuss and highlight the crisis in Manipur. The organization has called upon community leaders to host these discussions and take responsibility for amplifying the plight of the people.

Athouba further raised concerns over restricted movement in several areas of Manipur, where the government has yet to implement adequate sanitization and safety measures. He also expressed frustration over the lack of decisive action against narco-terrorist groups operating along the Myanmar border, alleging that the Indian government is indirectly supporting these activities.

As the crisis deepens, COCOMI remains committed to raising public awareness about the situation and the government’s role in the conflict, advocating for an immediate and transparent resolution to the issues affecting Manipur.
