Ahead of the ‘Kuki Political Talks’ between the Govt. of India, Govt. of Manipur and the UPF and KNO at New Delhi tomorrow, various Kuki students bodies came out on the street for a peaceful public rally to show its support and solidarity with the UPF and KNO today at Kangpokpi District Headquarters in Manipur.

Saying that the United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organization (KNO) are the ‘Kuki Political Emissaries’, the peaceful public rally was jointly organized by several student bodies of Sadar Hills including TSA Sadar Hills, Zillai Sadar Hills, Gangte Students’ Organization Sadar Hills, etc. under the aegis of Kuki Students’ Organization Sadar Hills.

Around 100 students apart from various other civil society organizations leaders including women bodies also took part in the peaceful public rally in support of UPF and KNO in the 7th round of ‘Political Dialogue’ to be held at New Delhi on June 25. The rally begins at around 1:30 pm in the afternoon from downtown IT.Road and culminated at main bazar Kangpokpi District Headquarters at around 2:30 pm.

The rallyist hold banners which reads, “UPF-KNO Kuki political emissaries”, “Public rally to expedite Kuki political solution”, “Expedite our demand, Justice delayed is Justice denied”, “Expedite Kuki Political Solution”, “Students for Peace, No political solution No Rest”, “No Kukiland No Rest”, etc.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the peaceful public rally, Goulen Haokip, General Secretary, KSO Sadar Hills said that the 7th round of Kuki Political Talks to discussed the long cherished demand of the Kukis will be held shortly tomorrow at the National Capital, for which the students community gathered here today to show our support and solidarity to the Kuki political emissaries, the UPF and the KNO.

Peaceful public rally at Kpi in support of Talks

He continued that it is also a message to the Government of India to acknowledge the aspiration of the Kuki people and expedite the process of the historic Kuki political talks so as to accomplish our long cherished demand and solved the vexed political issue of the Kukis.

He also said that the rally is also mean to give a strong message to the UPF and KNO, who represented the 23 cognate tribes of the Kukis in the Talks that the student community spiritedly stand united in support of your representation and pray for your success in your endeavors in cherishing the dream of the Kuki people.

“We strongly support the ongoing political dialogue between the Government of India, Government of Manipur and the UPF and the KNO for early settlement of the vexed political issues of the Kukis and urge the Governments to expedite the talks to find an amicable solution at the earliest”, he asserted.

Meanwhile, source from UPF confirmed that seven delegates will represented the UPF in the 7th round of political dialogue which includes ST. Thangboi, Chairman UPF; Aaron Kipgen, Spokesperson UPF; Calvin H, President ZRA/ZRO; Jacob Haokip, UKLF; Henkholal Doungel, KRF; David Chongloi, KRA(U); and Sanga Hmar, HPC(D).

On the other hand, similar number of delegates will represented KNO according to its source while the delegates includes PS. Haokip, President KNO; David Hangshing, Vice President KNO; Dr. Seilen Haokip, Negotiator KNO; Tongpu Haokip, Secretary Home; TS Haokip, Secretary Defense; L. Jacob Khongsai and Lutginlal Manlun, JMG.

Interestingly, both the supremo of the UPF, ST Thangboi Kipgen and KNO, PS Haokip will be participating in the 7th round of political dialogue while an unconfirmed source said that it is the directive of the Government that all the top brass leaders of both umbrella organizations shall participate in the talks with reason not ascertained till writing of this reports.

A draft outline of the political demand for formation of ‘Territorial Council’ signed by UPF spokesperson, Aaron Kipgen and KNO negotiator Dr. Seilen Haokip was tabled during the 6th round of talks last year on January 10 when newly appointed Interlocutor, AB Mathur chaired the talks for the first time after he replaced Dineshwar Sharma as the Interlocutor.
