Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) had instigated the attacks at the AASU office in Silapathar on March 6; this was alleged by KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi on Monday.
According to Gogoi the unrest was created by the BJP to wrest power in the Dhemaji by-elections. “The BJP led state government had planned to credit itself by arresting the prime accused of the attacks Subodh Biswas days ahead of the elections.”
He further went on to the extent of saying that the BJP had conspired to Saffronise the society by encouraging Hindu communal elements.
He added that the state government decision to host Namami Brahmaputra festival is a move to malign the culture and traditions of the state and thereby hurting sentiments of nationalism. “The government should instead concentrate and take concrete steps for addressing various issues of flood, erosion and digging of the Brahmaputra.”
