Army Installs Lachit Borphukan’s Statue at Dinjan Base

A statue of legendary Ahom army general Lachit Borphukan was unveiled at Dinjan Military Station in Dibrugarh district of eastern Assam on Monday.

The statue was unveiled by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps and General Officer Commanding of Dao Division, among others. The Chief Minister applauded the initiative of the Indian Army for paying tribute to the great warrior and highlighted the contribution of Indian Army in development of Assam.

He exhorted upon the audience present to emulate the qualities of ‘Bir’ Lachit Borphukan and take motivation from him for serving the Nation selflessly. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling in Dinjan Military Station on the occasion of World Environment Day.

GOC Spear Corps Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, thanked the people of Assam for their trust and constant support to Armed Forces during the challenging times. GOC Dao Division Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan said the aim of the event was to create awareness about the battle heroics as well as the contribution of the legendary General who employed profound tactics to vanquish a numerically superior Mughal Army at Battle of Saraighat. He also briefed the Chief Minister on the community development activities being undertaken by the Army for the people of the region.
