Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Monday termed Article 370 of Constitution, which allowed special status to Jammu and Kashmir, cancer. Applauding the provision’s abrogation by the Modi government, the actor said that the day will be marked as remarkable in “the history of our great nation India”.

“Today marks a remarkable day in the history of our great nation India. The most damaging Article 370 has been abolished by Modi govt from J&K. Being a Kashmiri myself, it’s an emotionally powerful moment to witness history unfold before my own eyes,” Anupam Kher said.

“Article 370 was a cancer that was harming J&K for last several decades. I am glad, we have finally found a cure & we now can march towards development & peace in J&K,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier the Kashmiri-origin actor said he had woken up to the best news of his life. That the announcement took place on the day of the release of his autobiography was a gift, he said.

The actor, who is New York, had posted a cryptic tweet on Sunday, saying, “Kashmir Solution has begun.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in Rajya Sabha to abolish Article 370 of the Constitution, which accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir, after the president issued a notification, and introduced a Bill to divide the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The Rajya Sabha approved both the resolution and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019.
