Natural disasters are unpredictable and inevitable and therefore measures and good practices should be adopted in combating the disaster and future calamities, stated the Deputy Commissioner cum District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) stated Dr. Kinny Singh yesterday while chairing a district level Pre-monsoon preparation meeting, held in the Siang Hall amidst the ongoing spell of pre-monsoon showers across the state.

 

Various issues like preparation of department-wise monsoon preparedness plans, disaster relief measures, early warning systems, checking the readiness of equipment and communication systems, advance procurement of necessary relief materials, coordinated approach for disaster response in the districts and community-based disaster management and lessons learned from the previous preparedness and disaster response activities etc were thoroughly discussed at the meeting.

 

Dr. Kinny Singhwhile taking stock of contingency plans, available inventories and innovative ideas in the meeting, has shared vital suggestions and preventive measures for the upcoming monsoon and urged the participants to take advance action in order to tackle the upcoming monsoon and directed all the line departments to further review and submit their disaster management plans at their earliest possible updating the inventory list. The DC advocated for the active involvement of Gaon Buras in the Incidence Response team and further emphasized the need for greater coordination and co-operation from various stakeholders and non-governmental agencies in order to tackle the disastrous situation collectively. The DDMA also laid stress on timely issuance of notice to people living in vulnerable areas and maintaining stocks of lifesaving drugs and food grains. Singh in her deliberation has strongly instructed the officers to be available in their respective places of posting in a state of full alert to chase any disastrous situation.

 

While concluding her address, the DDMA instructed to conduct of regular mock drill in the township and other vulnerable areas by involving all stakeholder in collaboration with the NDRF to get the system in ready mode and further directed to set up a dedicated 24x7District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) with required infrastructures and manpower.

 

DDMO G. Tsomu through power point presentation briefed about the action plan for the ensuing monsoon. The meeting was attended by the Incidence Response Team and Disaster Management Committee.
