NET Bureau, Tanya Rose Rao

*In conversation with David Roy, who is representing Northeast for Mr India title.

NET: Tell us how you got selected by Leo’s Dream Works. What was your reaction when you heard the news?

David: I was once scrolling through my Facebook page casually when I happened to notice an advertisement for the audition of the competition. It is being organized by Leo’s Dream Works this year. I was very excited by it and decided to give it a shot. The audition was held in Delhi and among the ninety two boys who had gone to represent North East India, I was selected. I had also auditioned for Mr. North India and Mr. Glam India. Again, I got selected to represent my region for both these competitions.

NET: What does Mr. India mean to you?

David: I associate Mr. India to a platform, an opportunity, given to me to represent my region in front of the entire nation, and I will perform this task dutifully.

NET: What are the preparations made for the pageant?

David: As mentioned before, Mr. India is being organized by Leo’s Dream Works this year in Delhi. The finale will be held on the 28th July which will be telecated by Zoom TV. Some Bollywood actors and actresses will also grace us with their presence, including Rohit Khandewal, who received the title of Mr World. We’re going to begin with a grooming week that will commence on the 22nd of July, in Jaipur. During this week, we will receive training in ramp walking, personal development, confidence building, stage management etc. The winner will then get the opportunity to represent India at the International level.

NET: Tell us a little about yourself.

David: I’m twenty six year old hailing from Margherita, Assam. I have graduated from Margherita College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. I am currently working as a contractor in Coal India Limited.

NET: Do you think that the organization Leo’s Dream Work attempts to spread any message?

David: In my opinion, the purpose of this competition is two-fold; first, it aims at unity and awareness by bringing the youth from all over the country to make an attempt at interacting with each other, and in the process, getting to know cultures better. Second, it provides a platform to display one’s talent.

NET: How does it feel representing the Northeast?

David:I am very thankful to the people of Assam and the Northeast for having faith in me. I feel very proud to represent my region. We, as north-easterners, are well aware of the mainland India divide that comes our way. I want to show everyone that our region and its people aren’t as backward as stereotyped and that we possess immense talent and we are capable of competing with anyone.
