A full length Assamese language song has featured in Bollywood movie `A Death in the Gunj’, directed by Konkona Sen Sharma, which have been screened in different film festivals across the globe.

The song written by Rajdweep has featured in a Bollywood film for the first time. The song ‘Jiri Jiri Noi’ has been composed by Sagar Desai. The film is also the directorial debut for actress Konkona.

“I’m glad that my song was selected in the film. This is for the first time that a full length Assamese song has been featured in a Hindi film made in Mumbai. It was an opportunity for me to work in Bollywood and provide Assamese music at the national level,” an elated Rajdweep said.

Rajdweep has written several plays for the mobile theatres and also composed songs for Angarag Papon Mahanta.
Though the language was alien to music director Desai and others, they seemed to have enjoyed the process of recording of the song.

“I may not have understood the meaning of the words, but I loved the sound of the words,” said Desai . The length of the song is about four minutes and is the only song in the film.

The film stars Om Puri and Kalki Koechlin among others. Rajdweep said that the song depicts the hopes, aspirations and dreams of the protagonist. The song was sung by Pramila Pradhan, a known folk singer.

“This song was written last year after I wrote another Assamese song for MTV which was sang by Papon,” said 31-year old Rajdweep
who is one of the youngest successful playwrights of the state.
