Award-winning Assamese filmmaker Manju Borah’s Bodo film ‘Dau Huduni Methai’ (Song of the Horned Owl) has been selected for screening at the Montreal World Film Festival (MWFF), one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals. The film depicts the effects of Bodo insurgency on villagers.

“This is great news for our region. We are going through a tough time, but this news will give us motivation. I would like to thank the producer for showing courage and investing money in my film. We still have people who want to support good cinema,” Borah said.

The film, produced by Shankarlal Goenka, was to be made two years ago, but Borah could not find an artist to play the protagonist.

The MWFF is scheduled to begin from August 27 in Montreal city and Borah’s film will be screened in the ‘Focus on World Cinema’ segment. The MWFF, which began in 1977, brings together some of the world’s best films and filmmakers.

“It’s quite an achievement for me. It is very satisfying to be counted among the best in the world. I must thank the unit and everyone who has helped me,” said the elated director.
