Flood has not wreaked havoc in Kerala alone but has also inundated several places in Karnataka as well when due to heavy rain the Harangi Dam had to open and huge volumes of water were discharged, thereby flooding several areas at the Kushalnagar Kodagu district of the state. Several houses collapsed and many lives were lost, apart from damaging properties worth of lakh.

At this time of crisis, extending a helping hand, the monks of the Sera Monastery and the Bylakuppe Tibetan refugee settlement got together and supplied food and essential items of daily use to those affected by the flood. The list of items supplied by the Monks includes bedding, sleeping clothes, vegetables, fruits and other edible products.

It may be mentioned here that around 40000 cusecs of water were discharged from the dam that led to this one of the worst deluges of the recent times. And because of this, several families lost their homes and to live in shelter homes.
