Sikkimese movie ‘Bya-Kay’, directed and produced by Bhaichung Tsechudarpa in association with Arithang Gyaltsen Tshogpo was released by Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling at Vajra Hall on Thursday.

Bhaichung Tsechudarpa said that the word ‘Bya-Kay’ comes from the Bhutia word ‘Bya’ meaning chicken and ‘Kay’ means to offer. After three days of a birth of a child, ‘Bya-Kay’ is celebrated, which is shown in the film.

Tsechudarpa said that “this was a tribute to the customs and heritage that we have been blessed with from the older generations.”

“This was an attempt for the younger generations to understand the different facets of our traditions which has been evaporating nowdays. With time comes change and he hoped that with a small initiative like this, the fading society and customs would be treasured and saved,” he added.

The movie screening was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Hissey Lachungpa, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker K.N Rai and others.
