Conducive Atmosphere Vital to Expedite Talks Asserts Interlocutor AB Mathur

The Interlocutor of Indo-Kuki political talks involving Govt. of India, Govt. of Manipur and the two conglomerates of the Kuki UGs, United People’s Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organization (KNO) arrived at Manipur’s Kangpokpi District Headquarters today and held a series of meeting with the civil society organizations and the UPF leaders on his maiden visit to the district.

 

People of Kangpokpi including men and women, young and old and student community despite of unfavorable weather welcome AB. Mathur, the Interlocutor of Indo-Kuki political talks formally at Gamgiphai, the entry point of Kangpokpi District from the state capital while the main reception ceremony was held at the District Headquarters Kangpokpi.

 

Delegates of United People’s Front (UPF) led by its President, ST. Thangboi also greets the Interlocutor at Kangpokpi District Headquarters presenting him a traditional Gong and wrapped traditional shawl over his shoulder as marked of his maiden visit and gratitude before having a closed door meeting for about half an hour at ADC Sadar Hills, the local self Government office.

 

Hundreds of students in the first row greet the Interlocutor accompanied by the state Interlocutor Ibocha Singh with banners which read, “Expedite Kuki Political Solution”, “No Political Solution No Rest” while the Students’ Organization greets with a giant banner hanging over the Trans Asian Highway No.1 which read, “Welcome Pu AB. Mathur, Interlocutor for Peace Talk, Govt. of India”.

 

Then, the general public greets the Interlocutor with a traditional folksong which goes, “Our Land now in Burma, India and Bangladesh was defended by our Chiefs, our forefathers. Political map had divided as but our culture retains its freedom. We fought the British and today we retain our freedom. Our new generation continues to defend the fatherland, our soldiers, the UPF and KNO. Acknowledge our freedom, give us Justice, Pu AB. Mathur, be our torchbearer, make us realize our dream of political unity of our lands, God bless you friends of the Kukis”.

 

The traditional folksong was beautifully followed by blowing of a traditional trumpet as a mark of greeting good friend in a traditional style while the interaction and discussion with the general public took place at Conference Hall, ADC Sadar Hills after the closed meeting with the UPF leaders.

 

Mammoth Kuki chiefs donned with traditional attire with red blanket over their shoulder were also seen greeting the Interlocutor at the entrance of the ADC Sadar Hills office apart from the Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District and various other civil society organizations.

 

While addressing the gathering, AB. Mathur expressed his happiness to witnessed the people’s excitement in welcoming him auspiciously despite of the inauspicious weather condition and conveyed that he have close relationship with Manipur and also have very fond memories while learning many things while he was posted in Churachandpur since 1978 till early 1983.

 

He said he owe a lot to the state and he would like to do whatever he can to return what he get from here even if he may not able to return even 10 per cent of what he get from Manipur

 

The Interlocutor of the Indo-Kuki political talks said the progress of the peace talks involving Govt. of India, Govt. of Manipur and the UPF and KNO was very satisfactory but due to some event that took place here among the groups it has been delayed but I hope the issue will be resolved and the talks will resume very soon.

 

He said that the Government of India and Government of Manipur are both very keen to find a solution to the problems and issues of the Kukis as earliest as possible and it can be materialize when everyone are on the boat while maintaining conducive atmosphere here.

 

“There are three parts of any talks such as the atmosphere for holding the talks, the talks itself and aftermath of the talks and now we are in the first two phase so we need conducive atmosphere here for holding the talks”, asserted the Interlocutor.

 

While highlighting the important role of the civil society organization in the talks, the interlocutor said that the past 4/5 months atmosphere here had been vitiated which affected the talks and urges the civil society which the Interlocutor refer to as guardian of the talks entity groups to ensure conducive atmosphere and the atmospheric remain positive in the area.

 

“Please make the atmospheric here positive and ensure all those participating in the talks are all together because their togetherness is very much important in the talks as even a minor deviation amongst them and creating problems among one another will badly affect the talks”, AB. Mathur urges the civil society organization while appealing them to play also the role of elders of talk’s entities groups asking them to maintained positive atmosphere so as to expedite the talks.

 

The Indo-Kuki political talks Interlocutor while stressing on the talks said that I do not want anything very secretive but day to day happening and discussion sometimes it’s best to held in close door as there are many complication and issues.

 

He also said that we are very keen that the talks concluded as early as possible and we are also equally keen that the talks culminate in an agreement which remain successful while adding that it is not only the question of inking a record but the successful implementation of the agreement is also important.

The All Manipur Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Kangpokpi Town Committee and the United Peoples’ Front also submitted separate memorandum to the Interlocutor during the interaction and discussion program while various tribes of the Kukis, the U-Nao Tribes also meet the Interlocutor separately before the public interaction and discussion.

 

Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship leaders while offering blessing to the Interlocutor in his endeavours in dealing with the age old Kuki political issues in the days ahead along with the with the Government of Manipur and the UPF and KNO seeks God’s blessing also for the Interlocutor during the event.

Meanwhile, the Interlocutor also visits the designated camp of Kuki National Front, Peace Camp Ebenezer at Natheljang while heading towards the state capital Imphal after the public interaction and discussion at Kangpokpi District Headquarters.
