In a major boost to education sector of Assam, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has conferred ‘A++’ grade to prestigious Cotton College with a CGPA of 3.76 in the 4.00 scale. The college has been adjusted as third best college in India.

‘A++ is the highest grade conferred by the NAAC and Cotton College has become the first college ever to get the highest grade in the entire east zone of the country. The CGPA of 3.76 scored by the college makes it to the third highest score among the colleges nationwide.

The result was declared by the NAAC on November 5, 2016, through their website. This is the third cycle of NAAC accreditation for the college and is valid for a period of five years. Nirada Devi, principal of the college, expressed her gratitude to all the stakeholders of the institution, including the faculty, students, retired teachers, non-teaching staff, alumni and well-wishers for this achievement.

After a three-day assessment by the NAAC peer team from September 14 to 16, 2016, the result has brought cheers to the college and all its stakeholders. The result is the outcome of the assessment of five years (2011-16) of excellence demonstrated by it under seven types of criteria earmarked by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Till now, the Government Mahindra College of Punjab had scored the highest CGPA of 3.86 nationwide, followed by Hans Raj Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Punjab, with CGPA 3.83. Cotton College now shares the third position at the national level with Jyoti Nivas College, Karnataka, St Joseph College, Kerala, and DAV College, Punjab, with a CGPA of 3.76. Twelve colleges, including Pachhunga University College in Aizawl have got A+ rating.

Notably, Arya Vidyapeeth College in Guwahati, Gurucharan College in Silchar and Kamrup College in Nalbari have achieved A grade in the latest assessment by the council.
