A constable of the 120 battalion of the CRPF shot himself with his service revolver on Wednesday evening leading to his death at about 10:30 pm at Dakopgre locality of Tura in Meghalaya.

The 34-year-old from constable hailing from Manipur has been identified as T Chinza Kam. He was declared dead on arrival at Tura Civil Hospital, where his for post-mortem was carried out.

Superintendent of Police West Garo Hills Raghuvendar Kumar said the constable had competed his duty for the night and was returning to his quarters when he allegedly shot himself. The reason for the extreme step taken by the CRPF man is yet to be ascertained.

“He was still alive when he was found though he died on the way to the hospital. Prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide though we are looking at all angles to the case,” Kumar added.

The deceased constable was a resident of Lianzagin village under Churachandrapur district of Manipur.
