Environmentalist Purnima Barman Receives Green Oscar

Bringing laurels to the state, Purnima Devi Barman, a noted environmentalist of Assam has been conferred with the Whitley Awards, which is also known as the Green Oscars in London on Thursday.

Purnima has been awarded by Princess Anne for her campaigns for the conservation of ‘Haargila’.

According to the information, Purnima has been working in Dadara, Pacharia and Hingimari villages of Kamrup district for saving greater adjutant stork.

She is a member of Aaranyak, a Guwahati based NGO for preservation and restoration of environment and related issues.
Purnima was nominated among 116 environmentalists from 66 countries.

The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), a Britain based charity gave the Whitley Awards 2017, worth £35,000 in project funding, to Purnima during a ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society in London.
