Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Narendra Modi government of “manipulating” news cycles to hide the ongoing economic crisis in the country. In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said India does not need “propaganda” and “manipulated news cycles”. He said the country also doesn’t need “foolish theories about millennials”, indirectly attacking Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her recent comment where she said the Indian auto industry is suffering because millennials aren’t buying cars as they prefer using cab services like Ola and Uber.

“What India needs isn’t propaganda, manipulated news cycles and foolish theories about millennials, but a concrete plan to fix the economy that we can all get behind,” Rahul Gandhi said in his tweet.

Rahul Gandhi said, “Acknowledging that we have a problem is a good place to start.”

With the tweet, Rahul Gandhi also shared link of an interview given by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Hindu BusinessLine.

Earlier in the day, the Congress also shared the interview and quoted Singh as saying, “I believe that we are entering a different kind of crisis now, a prolonged economic slowdown that is both structural and cyclical. The first step in a crisis is to acknowledge that we are facing one.”
