Health delivery system in Namsai district still poses a herculean challenge though the sector is on top priority agenda of present Arunachal Pradesh government.

Very remote and inaccessible Tiligibam village under Lathao circle is a glittering example of the state even 45 years after it became a union territory (NEFA) and 33 years after attaining statehood and 73 years after India became a free nation.

However, Lathao PHC senior medical officer Dr S K Singh along with ASHA Ranjum Mantaw immunized 45 targeted children to achieve 100% coverage, which came to limelight during nation-wide intensified pulse polio immunization (IPPI) programme on Sunday.

Dr Singh deserves appreciation for planning to reach the village by daring to cross Tengapani River on a boat, as was seen in a WhatsAap, and trekked on foot 9-10 km to reach the village. This makes difference as India is among the world’s large reservoirs of wild poliovirus with 559 confirmed cases which calls for committed works with sincerity as directed by the WHO.

However, Lathao recorded 100% IPPI coverage by immunizing 956 targeted children by 21 more groups, official sources said. This should draw the attention of Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang to take note of good doers.

Moreover, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who represents Namsai district, should also adopt media [(mein-diya (I gave)] principle by developing road connectivity to all such unconnected villages of this Himalayan state with road connectivity also on top priority of the state government. It is needless to mention here that road link offers panacea to socio-economic development of this land-locked state.
