Inferno Gutted Properties Worth More than Rs. 1 Crore in Manipur

In one of the most devastating fire incident in Manipur’s Kangpokpi District, properties worth more than Rs. 1 Crore was reportedly reduced to ashes on Tuesday at Semol village under Saikul Assembly Constituency in Kangpokpi District.

 

Semol, a Kuki village comprising of more than 70 households is located around 26 Km. away from the state capital Imphal under Saikul Police Station. The unfortunate fire incident happened this afternoon at around 4:00 pm when the village Church Secretary residential house and his Grocery-cum-Stationery Shop nearby the house caught fire allegedly out of short circuit.

 

The house belongs to one Thangkhopao Haokip (40), s/o Haujathang Haokip who is the current Semol Baptist Church Secretary. His wife Lhingboi (38) is a housewife who runs a Grocery-cum-Stationery Shop near their residential house. The couple has two sons, Thanggunlen (5) and Ngammonlen (3).

 

The nearest Fire Sub Station from Semol village is at Lamlai located around 15/16 Km. from the village. The fire brigade reached the spot after everything was reduces to ashes by the fire owing to long distance.

 

According to the Church Secretary, except an Astar car park inside the garage all other properties are reduced to ashes by the devastating inferno which was ignited owing to short circuit and the gas Cylinder caught the fire and blast which burst into flames forcefully to razed down the house and properties.

 

In approximate, properties including medical items worth Rs. 1 lakhs, Grocery items worth Rs. 25,000/-, Stationery items worth Rs. 10 Lakhs which includes school uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, etc, Church building construction amount of Rs. 8.80 Lakhs, Semol Women Self Help Group money of Rs. 85,000/-, Rice 60 bags worth Rs. 81,000/- and other properties yet to be estimated have been gutted in the fire incident while the value of the residential house is estimated at Rs. 24 lakhs approximately.

 

The house owner, who is also the Church Secretary, said that as the Church is currently undertaking Church building construction I keep the Church money in my residence while my wife is running a Grocery-cum-Stationer Shop where she also sell Blossom Community Education Centre textbooks, Notebooks, Uniforms, etc.

 

However, all these valuable properties have already been gutted in the devastating fire today, said the Church Secretary while seeking sympathy on the part of the concerned department and the state Government for their kind intervention for compensation.

 

Lamlai Police rushed to the spot and take stock of the situation. No casualties have been reported in the destructive fire. However, the Church Secretary said that casualties could have happen in the fire incident if there was no mourning in the village due to the untimely expired of a villager this morning our residence has been serving as a business hub in the village owing to the Grocery-cum-Stationery Shop run by my wife.
