Celebrities who has worked as teachers

  • J K Rowling worked as an ESL teacher in Portugal while concocting the adventures of Harry Potter.
  • Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was a public school teacher.
  • Hugh Jackman is a former gym teacher
  • “1984″ author George Orwell was a high school teacher in West London.
  • The Da Vinci Code” author Dan Brown was a math teacher
  • Akshay Kumar prior to his Bollywood career has worked as a martial arts teacher.
  • Benedict Cumberbatch, known for his role as Sherlock in the Tv series of the same name, served as an English teacher at a Tibetan Monastery in Darjeeling.

Teachers Day around the world

  • Since 1994, World Teacher’s Day has been celebrated worldwide on the 5th of October. UNeSCO states that World Teacher’s Day is celebrated around the world as a sign of appreciation, understanding and awareness for the contribution that teachers make in the field of education
  • According to a recent survey, the only profession more widely trusted than teachers is doctors. Judges come third.
  • The City Montessori School in Lucknow, India is probably the world’s biggest school. It has more than 32,000 pupils.
  • In the US, Teachers’ Appreciation Day is observed on Tuesday during Teacher Appreciation Week -the first week of May every year.
  • In Bhutan, Teachers’ Appreciation Day is celebrated on May 2nd. They also use the day to commemorate the birth of its third king who was responsible for the introduction of education in the country.
  • The Chinese observe Teachers’ Appreciation Day on September 10th. There have been many petitions to have it moved to September 28th –Confucius’ birthday. This is the same day Taiwan celebrates their teachers.
  • In Argentina, Teachers Appreciation Day is observed on September 11th. The date was set to honor the 7th President of Argentina, who stood up for education in the country. He passed away on Sept. 11th, 1888.
  •  In Us Substitute educators Day’ is celebrated as the official Teacher’s day for substitute teachers. Substitute teachers are extremely important because, they act like a bridge, filling the gap between full-time teachers and students. The need for organizing a separate day to commemorate substitute teachers came about with NeA’s decision of acknowledging the work and the contribution of these part-time mentors. Thus, substitute educator’s day is observed on the 3rd Friday of November around the world.
  • In Singapore, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the first Friday of September. Here Teacher’s Day is considered a national holiday.
