
A sub-inspector of Assam Police has been arrested after he was caught red-handed while taking bribe from a person in a city hotel in Guwahati, Assam. The arrest was carried out by Vigilance and Anti-corruption cell of Assam police.
Biren Kumar Bora, a sub-inspector posted at Paltan Bazar police station was caught red-handed while taking bribe from Jayanta Das who had been granted bail by Gauhati High Court in a case registered with Paltan Bazar police station.
A police source informed that in a case of Paltan Bazar police station, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to Jayanta Das. The sub-inspector handling the case, sought Rs 40,000 from Das as bribe for execution of the bail that was granted by the court.
Das then approached the anti-corruption and vigilance wing of Assam police and informed them about the bribe sought by the police officer who was later caught red-handed while receiving a bribe of Rs 20,000 at Hotel Victoria in Paltan Bazar.
Jatindra Nath, the manager of the hotel has also been arrested in the connection.
