Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the people to request rebel groups to find amicable political solutions with the Centre.

Biren Singh was speaking at the 186th death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at the latter’s samadhi located at Langthabal in Imphal West on Thursday.

The Chief Minister called for a collective effort to uphold the integrity of the nation and the State. “Let us forget and forgive our past mistakes and put our collective efforts to uphold the integrity of the nation as well as the State,” he stressed.

Biren Singh maintained that peace and prosperity in the State would be possible only when “we commit ourselves” to build unity and integrity among the communities living in the State. Identity politics has affected the growth and development of the State, he rued.

Lauding the sacrifice and courage of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Nara Singh, Heerachandra and other “unsung heroes” of the State, the Chief Minister said, “What we are today is because of the selfless sacrifices made by our forefathers. Patriotic and nationalistic feelings are inborn traits and should run high in our blood.”

The Chief Minister affirmed that the territorial boundary and integrity of the State would remain intact. He stated that implementation of the ILP system would protect the indigenous people of the State.

Speaking on the demand of the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) to shift the Assam Rifles (AR) post from the Manipur University campus, Biren Singh said that he would urge the Central Government to do the needful.

He appealed to civil society organisations, student bodies, local clubs, etc., to encourage groups to indulge in agricultural and horticultural farming to attain self-sufficiency. In order to facilitate such a movement, the Government will open a special cell to provide financial and technical support to the groups,” Biren Singh added.
