In yet another political turn in poll-bound Manipur, former BJP spokesperson Indira Oinam on Friday was appointed as the spokesperson of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Oinam deserted the saffron brigade over distribution of tickets for upcoming Assembly polls. She left the BJP recently, and joined the Congress along with her 7,000 supporters. Manipur Congress president T N Haokip formally appointed her as the spokesperson of the party and expected that her appointment would strengthen the Congress.
Welcoming Indira to the party fold, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh too expressed confidence that her joining would bolster the Congress.
Meanwhile, she shared that the manner in which the party tickets were distributed is the reason behind her leaving BJP. “The Congress’ principle of accepting individuals to the party irrespective of caste and religion is another factor why I joined the Congress.”
She also expressed confidence that Congress would retain power and form government in the state. Indira hails from Thoubal Assembly constituency, the home turf of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
