Mizoram Congress Expels R Lalzirliana from Party
September 18
16:54 2018

After the resignation of Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana, he was expelled from the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Party for alleged “anti-party activities”. Lalzirliana had previously given a resignation letter to Thanhawla’s cabinet after he was served a show cause notice from the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) accusing him of confusing party workers on September 11. Though Lalzirliana was the vice-president of the MPCC, he was served the notice over reports that he could join a rival party.

The show cause notice was served on Lalzirliana on September 12 asking him to furnish his reply within Friday after he made statements about offers from various parties to join them and reports about him being in the list of official candidates of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) for the upcoming election.

Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on Monday accepted the resignation of R Lalzirliana.

The 69-year-old, who represents Tawi seat in Aizwal, also held the charge of power and electricity, rural development and excise and narcotics portfolios and was the second most powerful person in the cabinet headed by chief minister Thanhawla.

C Lalpianthanga, the chairperson of the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the MPCC issued a notice on Monday afternoon, expelled Lalzirliana saying “We had to issue the expulsion order for the larger interest of the party and under the present circumstances.”
