The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizoram’s apex students’ body, today observed a ‘black day’ under the aegis of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

MZP volunteers hoisted black flags at various places here and condemned police atrocities on anti-CAA activists in the region.

The black day was observed to commemorate the police firing during a peaceful protest by students against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in Tripura last year.

MZP general secretary Lalnunmawia Pautu said that the NESO and the MZP strongly condemn police atrocities on peaceful anti-CAB/CAA protesters across the North East and in Central universities.

NESO’s finance secretary Ricky Lalbiakmawia said that even though the CAB had been passed in Parliament and had become an Act, NESO would continue to protest against it.

Lawmsangzuali, a JNU student, also joined the protest programme and delivered a speech.
