A three-member pro-talk Ulfa delegation had a formal discussion with interlocutor AB Mathur at an undisclosed location in the national capital on Monday. “The talks were positive and we will sit for another round of discussion tomorrow,” said an official on condition of anonymity. Pro-talk Ulfa leaders including Arabindo Rajkhowa, Anup Chetia, and Sasadhar Choudhary met Mathur, a former special secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to take ahead of their ongoing peace talks.

Monday’s meeting assumes significance as New Delhi is all set to sign a peace accord with the NSCN-IM in the coming days.

Mathur, on Monday, during a book-release programme hinted that talk with Ulfa is at final stage.

Ever since talks started between the government and the pro-talk faction of Ulfa, the outcome was “almost positive,” except on the issue of granting constitutional safeguard to the indigenous people of the State.
