Nagaland State managed to collect Rs 121.21 crores in the form of direct taxes for the financial year 2018-19. This was informed by the Minister of State for Finance, Anurag Singh Thakur in Parliament while replying to a question in the floor of the Lok Sabha on July 9.

 As per the data released by the Union Minister, Mizoram registered the lowest collection of direct taxes at just Rs 59.57 crores. This was followed by Nagaland. Manipur with direct tax collection of Rs 171 crores came third, while Arunachal Pradesh came fourth lowest with Rs 250.57 crores. Meanwhile, at the top end of the scale, Maharashtra collected the highest amount of direct taxes for 2018-19 with Rs 4,25,390.84 crores.
In the same answer, the Union Minister of State also revealed that during the financial year 2018-19, 20,361 persons from the state of Nagaland filed their Income Tax Returns (ITRs).
Nagaland state’s figure was the third lowest among the states of the country. Mizoram registered the lowest number of ITRs filed at only 4,031 persons. The second lowest in the chart was Sikkim which registered 11,931 ITRs, followed by Nagaland, and then Arunachal Pradesh with 20,991 ITRs. Nationally, Maharashtra topped the list here as well with 100,27,427 people filing their ITRs during the financial year.
With regard to registry, the Union Minister informed that Nagaland has the third lowest number of people with registered PAN cards at 4,58,321 persons. In this category as well, Mizoram had the least number of people registered at 1,81,748. Sikkim came second lowest with 2,57,096; while Maharashtra showed the highest number of registered PAN cards at 6,27,27886 persons.
