The 202nd Bhanu Bhakta Jayanti got off to a festive start in Dimapur which was organised jointly by the Gorkha Students Union (GSU) and Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD). Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony held at the Town Hall in Dimapur on Monday.

In his speech Acharya lauded Gorkha writer Bhanu Bhakta as a great thinker and also who wrote the Ramayana in Gorkha language. The Governor further called on the students to remain united as it brought strength. Saying that India was a secular nation and all its citizens enjoyed equal rights and no distinction between those living in cities or villages the Governor added that the nation should not be segregated along the lines of religion since India is a secular country and there are various laws to protect a person from practicing one’s preferred religion.

Acharya called on the youth present, not to have the notion that only people in metro cities get the chance to progress. He reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had said that unless the Northeast region progresses the nation would not progress.

Earlier, speeches were delivered by guest of honour Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Dimapur Gorkha Union chairman Kumar Subba and GYCD president Shiva Kumar BK. The programme was chaired by Gorkha Hindu Milan Sewa Sangh joint secy, Gyan Ghataney. Dance and songs were presented by members of GSUD.
