Nagaland: KL Chishi Resigns from BJP

KL Chishi has submitted a resignation to Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, President, BJP Nagaland from the membership of BJP with immediate effect.

In a press release today, KL Chishi stated that having being associated with Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for little over a year, it was very unfortunate that the party has chosen to ignore the interest of the people of Nagaland “especially on these major issues – Naga Political solution, CAB and ILP/BEFR, youth unemployment and lack of Development.”

Chishi regretted that assurance to solve Naga political issue by BJP has rather changed into shifting of goalpost as per their convenience with promise of solution within 18 months turning into ‘election for solution’ and now ‘solution after election.’

He further said that “insincerity and lack of urgency has greatly harmed the aspirations of the people.” The flip flop stand of PDA government in Nagaland on CAB has only made matters worse, Chishi noted. Moreover, he said that the proposal for extension of ILP under BEFR 1873 to cover the district of Dimapur lacked a “certain political will.”

The hallowed slogan of BJP about development has “crumbled,” stated Chishi. In view of these unaddressed issues, Chishi said it has put the state and its people “under grave threat and BJP Nagaland playing second fiddle to nascent party NDPP, prolonging my association with BJP has become untenable.”

Chishi meanwhile, extended gratitude to all those who stood by him “while sailing in BJP’s boat that has now become directionless without any signs of fulfilling its stated objective for the people of Nagaland.”
