Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places are ‘very likely’ over many states, including Nagaland for the next three days starting May 11, stated a weather update by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on May 10.

The same condition is forecasted for May 12 at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and Kerala.

Similar weather conditions will also prevail at isolated places in Nagaland, along with other North East States such as Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on May 13, while heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

The IMD attributed the weather conditions to the “current Western Disturbance and ongoing moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea.”
The private weather forecaster Skymet Weather, in an update, also informed that the resumption of pre-Monsoon rains over the North-Eastern states from May 9 would “continue for the coming one week or so.”
