Eight gorgeous ladies from the Northeast go on to make the people from the region proud. They are not just the participants of India’s most coveted beauty pageant but the finalists of the same. In the last edition Priyadarshini Chatterjee from Assam was crowned the title. This edition of Femina Miss India sees more of the beauty from Northeast India with the eight beauties from the region walking the ramp. The finalists in a candid interaction with Northeast Today share a part of their lives, dreams and aspirations and inspirations.

Kiran Laishram, Meghalaya

With a highly supportive family behind, this Meghalaya beauty has been living her dream of a modelling career. And the wings of her dreams got more feathers with her entry at the Fbb Femina Miss India, 2017. “The opportunity to participate in Femina Miss India is like a miracle coming true,” says Kiran. She has always been inspired and motivated by her mother, who Kiran calls as her ‘living God’. Kiran is working hard towards reaching the top of the contest and “grab the title”. Apart from her career in modelling, Kiran Laishram plans towards spreading awareness and working towards gender equality.

Kaheli Chophy, Nagaland

Coming from a small town in Nagaland and with a humble background, Kaheli’s modelling career began with some significant initial works. After grabbing the 1st Runner up position in a local beauty pageant, her career can be said to have find wings. Later, Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland gave her the opportunity to audition for the Femina Miss India, representing Nagaland. And even-tually she was adjudged as the winner and now she is representing her state at the Fbb Femina Miss India, 2017. Earlier, she was also the 1st Runner Up at Miss Nagaland and Pond’s Eclectic Model Hunt. Kaheli believes, “When a title is achieved, it’s not just about the prestige that comes along but also a huge responsibility towards bringing in positive changes in society, that needs to be fulfilled.”

Rinky Chakma, Tripura

Father’s little girl, Rinky Chakma, aspires to live the title ‘beauty with a purpose’. She wants to contribute towards the society by uplifting women’s security and their rights as well as do something for the homeless and orphan children. Rinky’s modelling career professionally began after she grabbed the 1st Runner Up’s position at the Sunsilk Mega Miss Northeast contest, 2015. And since then there has been no looking back and now finally she gets the opportunity to represent her home state, Tripura, at the national event.

Licha Thousam, Arunachal Pradesh

“Being one of the finalists at the most coveted beauty pageant of India, I can be an inspiration for girls, especially of my state, where exposure to this field is limited,” expresses Licha. She won her first title in 2010 in a beauty pageant held in her home town. Later, on 2016, she was adjudged as the 1st Runner Up at Sunsilk Mega Miss Northeast. She looks up to her parents for inspiration and believes their contribution towards her accomplishments in life and career.


Soibam Kanchan Chanu, Manipur

“I grew up with a dream to participate at the Femina Miss India,” says Soibam. And when she got her ‘great’ opportunity to participate in the Northeast audition, she grabbed it with both hands and eventually got selected-representing Manipur-her happiness knew no bounds. She comes from a very humble family who “have no clue about the profession” she is pursuing, yet they support her dreams and encourage to go ahead. Soibam is associated with an organisation called “Bag of Joy”. They work towards the welfare of under privileged children by providing better health facilities, education and creating awareness of clean environment of plastic free zone. She plans to continue with the good work further.

Roshni Ghimirey- Sikkim

The sole participant from the state of Sikkim, Roshni is exalted at the opportunity to represent her beautiful state in the Fbb Colors Femina Miss India. She has been passionate about modelling since a young age and is pursuing modeling since the age of 15 years. A dreamer and a hard working person, Roshni is all set to go a long way in her career.

Triveni Barman- Assam

Triveni Barman earlier graced the ramp of Pond’s Eclectic beauty pageant in the year 2011 and was crowned the title. She is representing Assam in the grand pageant and with the kind of confidence and perseverance she has, she full-heartedly focuses on the title.

Rody H Vanlalhriatpuii- Mizoram

Rody has a number of achievements up her belt. She grabbed the title of Miss Mizoram 2017, becoming the first one from southern Mizoram to achieve it. Apart from the title she won three other sub-titles, Miss Talented, People’s Choice and the Best gown. During the Fbb Colors Femina Miss India East, 2017, Rody was crowned in with the title of some of the sub-contests, fbb Miss Talented, Dr. Tvacha Miss Refreshing Beauty. She is also the first contestant to represent Mizoram in the Fbb Colors Femina, 2017.

The talent partner for Femina Miss India, 2017, for Northeast Zone is ‘DESIGN CULTURE’, which is owned by designer Chow Poran J Gogoi.
