Neer Mahal and Water Festival:

Neer Mahal, which literally means water palace is a former royal palace built by King of Tripura Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The palace is called as Neer Mahal as it is built in the middle of the Rudrasagar Lake. The construction of the palace was started in 1930 and was completed in the year 1938. This grand palace is located in Melaghar, 53 kilometers away from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The palace inspired by Mughal style of architecture. However, it also has essence of Hinduism in its architectural styles and has a huge tourist attraction as it is one of the two Water Palaces in India.

The Water Festival: Every year in the months of August and December a grand water festival is observed by the locals and the state Governent at the Neer Mahal premises. They call it as “Neermahal Water Festival”. This water carnival is observed for 3 days and the celebration includes many interesting sports and cultural events. A big attraction of the Neermahal water festival is boat race in Rudrasagar Lake. This festival defines the grandeur and the glory of the palace. The Carnival also signifies peace. equality and brotherhood.
