Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday joined the nation in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, calling it a sacred hymn that inspired generations of freedom fighters.
Attending the event in the border district of Tawang, Khandu said he was proud to be part of the nationwide commemoration honouring the song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875.
“Vande Mataram is not merely a song, but a sacred hymn that stirred the hearts of countless freedom fighters a timeless call of devotion to our motherland and a soulful prayer that continues to awaken love for Bharat in every generation,” Khandu said in a post on X.
The Tawang celebration featured cultural renditions of the national song, patriotic performances, and tributes to freedom fighters who drew inspiration from it during India’s independence struggle. Khandu said the 150th anniversary was a moment to pay tribute to the words that united the nation and continue to inspire people to serve Maa Bharati with dedication.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nationwide ‘Vande Mataram @150’ celebration in New Delhi, describing it as a collective moment of pride for every Indian. Across the country, the events include musical performances, exhibitions, and programmes in schools and colleges highlighting the enduring influence of the song.
