Dispur, Nov 21: Assam Police seized large quantities of contraband in three consecutive operations in the Karbi Anglong district, marking a significant breakthrough in the state’s ongoing campaign against narcotics. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the series of actions as a “Bollywood-style beating” to the drug network while praising the police force for its continued efforts.

According to details shared by the Chief Minister on Thursday night, the operations led to the seizure of 255.641 kg of ganja valued at around ₹1.2 crore, 1.985 kg of morphine worth nearly ₹1.9 crore, and 9.44 kg of opium estimated at approximately ₹47.5 lakh. One individual was arrested in connection with the case.

In a post on X, Sarma stated, “Try. Fail. Repeat. In three back-to-back ops, the drug mafia got a Bollywood-style beating,” adding that the police had emerged as “Assam’s real-life Avengers” under the ongoing Assam Against Drugs campaign.

In a separate operation based on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles launched a joint action with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur Police in the Songlung village area of Kangpokpi district in Manipur. Conducted in the early hours of Thursday, the operation involved extensive area domination and search activities, resulting in the destruction of nearly 10 acres of illicit poppy cultivation along with three makeshift processing huts.

Officials estimated that the destroyed fields could have produced around 70 kg of opium worth several crores of rupees. Earlier, on November 16, Assam Rifles had destroyed another 25-acre stretch of illegal poppy fields in the same district, eliminating potential yields of more than 170 kg of opium.

Authorities stated that the operations were carried out in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions, underscoring the continued efforts of security forces to curb narcotics cultivation and dismantle networks funding insurgent and anti-national activities.
