Guwahati, Nov 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday alleged that state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has connections with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, and claimed that Gogoi’s wife is “more involved” with the agency.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi, who remains silent when terrorists strike in the country, is definitely an agent of the Pakistani spy agency. His wife might be a bit more and he might be a little less, but what is undeniable is that both are Pakistani agents, and we have enough proof with us.”
The chief minister added that he is not planning any action immediately due to the ongoing statewide mourning following singer Zubeen Garg’s death, but maintained that his claims against the Gogois “stand firm.”
Sarma also accused Gogoi of delaying criticism of Pakistan after terror attacks, citing the Delhi blast as an example. “When any unfortunate incident involving Pakistan happens, he delays his condemnation because he takes permission from them first. When our nation was mourning the tragic Delhi blast, he didn’t say anything. Later, he wrote a Facebook post without the word ‘condemn’. Only after public reaction did he add it, and that too half-heartedly,” he said.
Commenting on a recent opposition meeting in Guwahati to discuss election strategy, Sarma described it as “less about politics and more about a wedding,” referring to a viral video of Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi being teased about his wedding plans.
He further claimed that despite the united front shown by eight opposition parties ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls, the ruling BJP-led alliance remains unchallenged. “Their political agenda is hidden, while ours is transparent. That’s why we continue to be blessed by the people,” he said.
When asked about AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal’s return to active politics, Sarma dismissed him, saying, “His politics has expired. He and his party are no longer relevant.”
